Performance Improvement of Air-cooled Battery Thermal Management System using Sink of Different Pin-Fin Shapes

One of the most important influences on battery safety, capacity, and cell ageing is heat generation temperature inhomogeneity, which cause unbalanced ageing, resulting in performance decline. A well-developed management module required to avoid such undesirable actions. In this study, an air-cooled was developed by coupling a unique sink different pin-fin geometries/shapes prismatic Li-ion cells 3D transient analysis conducted simulate cooling under effect inlet airflow velocities temperatures at discharge rate 2C for three cases. The results form maximum homogeneity inside were derived compared commonly used circular sink. overall result indicates that case 2, consists uniform height, shows better promise than others, taking into consideration geometry employed. After 600 s constant air velocity 0.412 m/s across range 20 oC 35 oC, it found performed better, providing average 1.87% 1.93% improvement temperature, respectively.
